A favorite classic strip, now in color. Here we see Newt in his first attempt at a retail kiosk. This will be a reoccurring gag that is of course a nod to the famous lemonade stand purveyor Lucy Van Pelt, as well as others who followed.

As a less popular reference, “fig-ore-alls” is a play on “Figaro”, a name repeated in song during a segment of the comic opera entitled “The Marriage of Figaro”. Although I have never watched or listened to this particular opera (or any opera for that matter), I did watch a lot of Looney Tunes as a kid, so I don’t feel entirely culturally ignorant.
