Nevertheless, I think it works well here because the word Hebrew comes from the name of Peleg’s dad, Eber. They were descendents of Shem, whom Noah blessed back in chapter 9. Interestingly, the family trees emphasize different branches between chapter 10 and chapter 11. While Peleg is pointed out in Gen. 10:25 “because in his time the earth was divided”, it is his brother Joktan who gets the lineage list after that. In Gen. 11:18, Peleg begets Reu, and so on down the line to Abram, the “father” of the Hebrew nation.
