Hoo. These covenants are getting weirder and more disgusting. I had an idea to drag out this gag over a series of several strips, but I changed my mind. Let’s not tarry here. I’m sure there are other more insightful commentaries about removing the foreskin, but I’ll leave you to that. Maybe don’t Google it though.
PFFFFT Hahahahahahaha! XDD
Ohhhh man their reaction…brilliant…
I haven’t read the Bible in awhile so I forget. What was the reasoning behind circumcision?
Great question, Admiral. Like I said, there are much better commentaries out there than I could provide (check Matthew Henry or David Guzik), but in my feeble understanding I have gleaned that, like Hank Hanegraaff says, it was an “outward manifestation of an inward reality”. In other words, circumcision was a sign that these people were dedicated to God. So the action was symbolic in many ways (removing of the flesh, blood being shed, the importance of Abraham’s seed, etc.), and there is the practicality of the hygiene to consider, but I think the most important aspect of this covenant is the act of obedience. God told Abram to do something and he did it without hesitation or question. And keep in mind that, while this is still practiced today, the “circumcision of the heart” that Paul mentions in Galatians 5 is what Christians should be concerned with. Thanks for asking!
