Genesis 5:24 tells us  that “Enoch walked steadily with God. And then one day he was simply gone: God took him.” Later on in Hebrews 11:5 it is reiterated: “By an act of faith, Enoch skipped death completely. ‘They looked all over and couldn’t find him because God had taken him.’ We know on the basis of reliable testimony that before he was taken ‘he pleased God.’” (MSG)

This brief account has always interested me because only Enoch and Elijah (II Kings 2) are mentioned as having left this world by way of a divine shortcut. This is especially interesting in the context of Hebrews, since two chapters earlier (Heb. 9:27) we are told “Everyone has to die once, then face the consequences.” (MSG) Makes me wonder if those two have a role to play later on in the Story of God. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
